A Quick Share alternative that also works with iPhone and Mac
Quick Share, formerly Nearby Share, is handy between Android phones and some Windows PCs, but it does not reach iPhones, Macs or older laptops. OmniBeam does the same job in any web browser, so every device you own can send files to every other one.
How to use it instead of Quick Share
- Open omnibeam.site on both devices, for example an Android phone and a MacBook.
- On the same Wi‑Fi they show up by themselves. Otherwise pair them once with the QR code from the link button.
- Tap or click the other device and choose the files, or drag them onto it on a computer.
- Accept on the other device and save. Paired devices can also receive automatically.
What OmniBeam does that Quick Share doesn’t
Quick Share needs Bluetooth, an Android phone or a supported Windows PC, and the same account or contacts settings. OmniBeam needs none of that: it works on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Linux and Chromebook too, and across different networks once two devices are paired. It can also share files by link with someone far away.
Good to know
- Files go directly between the two devices and are encrypted on the way.
- There is no size limit for direct sends, and photos keep their full quality.
- On Windows, the free OmniBeam app from the Microsoft Store keeps it ready in the background, like Quick Share for Windows.
- Clipboard sync and Auto-send a folder (in Settings) move text and new files between your devices by themselves.
Many families have a mix of Android phones, iPhones and laptops. With one website that works everywhere, nobody has to ask which app the other person has, or whether Bluetooth is on.
If you are looking for a Quick Share alternative or a Nearby Share alternative that works with iPhone and Mac as well, OmniBeam is free and works in the browser you already use.
Questions and answers
Does OmniBeam use Bluetooth?
No. It uses your Wi‑Fi or internet connection, which is much faster than Bluetooth and works over longer distances.
Can an Android phone send to an iPhone with it?
Yes. That is exactly what Quick Share cannot do. Open OmniBeam on both phones and send.
Do both devices need a Google account?
No. There is no account at all. The devices find each other on the same network or by pairing once.
Is it as fast as Quick Share?
On the same Wi‑Fi it is usually as fast or faster, because the files go directly over your network at Wi‑Fi speed.
Does it work on older Windows laptops?
Yes. Any laptop with a modern browser such as Chrome, Edge or Firefox works, including Windows 10 and older Macs.
Can I send to several devices at once?
Yes. With Send to everyone in the ⋯ menu, the same files go to every device that is open on your network, which Quick Share cannot do.
Is it private?
Yes. Files go straight from one device to the other, encrypted, and nothing is kept on a server when you send directly.
